At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Chenzii enjoyed the stream that she had stumbled upon, happy with her decision to leave Aurora Borealis for the day and explore. As she lapped at the cool water of the stream she wished she had someone with her to enjoy this place with her. She was still hesitant about being around new wolves, but missed the company that she had shared when with her family, and especially Lucien. How she missed Lucien. Of course the fae missed the rest of her family, her mother and father, and other pack mates, but she and Lucien had had a special bond after they had escaped that fire together. Chenzii sat down and shook her head, trying to stop the memories from flooding in; she couldn’t stand to think of the day that she had lost her family.

As Chenzii sat by the water’s edge she was not paying much attention to her surroundings, feeling safe for the first time in many moons. She suddenly heard a noise from behind her, “Hello?” a voice murmured behind her. The fae spun around quickly, the fur on the back of her neck bristling instantly and instinctually as Chenzii cursed herself silently for letting her guard down for even a moment. The black fae froze as her eyes met with piercing blue eyes that were very familiar to her. Chenzii was shocked, this couldn’t be him, she thought to herself. Lucien’s dead she reminded herself, as she had assumed when she failed to find him when they lost each other all that time ago. This must just be a wolf that looks exactly like him she tried to convince herself.

As Chenzii stared at the new wolf she inhaled deeply, assuming that she would smell an unknown and new wolf, but was again shocked when the similar smell of her brother reached her nares. She sat back in astonishment as she began to realize that this really was her brother that was standing before her. “Hi,” she responded once she was finally able to speak. “Is it really you, Lucien?” Chenzii was waiting for the brute to laugh at her, telling her she had him mistaken him for another wolf.

The black she had given up all hope on seeing her brother ever again. She couldn’t bear to go through the pain of losing him again if she got her hopes up that this wolf, that looked exactly the same as her brother, really was her brother. Memories swarmed Chenzii’s mind as she looked at the brute. Memories of her and Lucien as pups: play fighting together, learning how to hunt together, spending nights with their mom and dad. Thousands of good memories of them together with their pack mates flooded her mind, as Chenzii fought the bad memories from coming in with them. She anxiously waited to see how the brute would reply, as she pulled her dark plume around her paws anxiously.
