My head is high as I make my way to my new home. I do not turn off and head toward the mountains where my heart and family lay for obvious reasons. I must rally the pack first, secure my domination, and begin plans before I move Rhoe and our son. There could be a battle of wills, or a few that are discontent and it is with those that I must deal before revealing my vulnerability and placing them in harm’s way.
So with that taken care of I recall the battle and how it ended. I did not care for it, hated the way the other did not continue. Any other wolf would rejoice but for me it was bitter. I wanted to prove myself and he robbed me of that opportunity thus forcing me to have to work harder in the eyes of my pack. My pack. The words held a certain ring that I liked. Mine. Mine to watch over and protect. Mine to nurture and guide into a blossoming community so to speak. My chest swelled as my tail lifts ever so slightly. I had no really need for posturing for I held a natural air, inherited from my parents. Time to put it to the test to see if I could stack up against them and my sister.
The first thing I do is cover all scent marks with my own. Clearly and efficiently wiping out the other’s rule and replacing it with the heady aroma that is all masculine and strong. After that I make my way toward the centre, preferring to settle upon the earth instead of a perch. I made sure that there is enough space around me so that if the pack wanted they could inspect me. Standing tall, I glance about myself, radiating strength and confidence before I let lose a booming howl. I call forth my packmates, invite them forward for we have much to speak about.
I, however, do not budge from my glorious stance. Tail is not curled over my back, once again I don’t have a need for posturing, yet I do have an air of dominance. I will make eye contact with each member as they come, looking them over and giving them a chance to look me over. Once that is finished I will approach each member in the order they came and without words will grab a hold of their muzzle. This simple show of dominance is all I will do. I will not demand they go belly up or even lie on their side. By letting me grip their muzzle for a few seconds seals the deal between alpha and follower. I will do this for each wolf over the age of two. After doing that I will reclaim my spot and then introduce myself. ”I am Silvertongue, son of Thunderbone and Boneclaw. Brother to Moonglow. I have taken control of the pack and am aware of the many paws it has exchanged within the last few seasons. I pray that I hold the reigns for many many seasons and give you the stability you deserve. “ I pause, giving them all a meaningful glance. ”First things first. It is spring and it seems that we may have pups. Who have given birth or have a mate to whelp? Who amongst you are proficient in hunting, battle, steals, and scouting? Are there any who have a grasp on herbology and healing?” I pause letting them answer. I run a tight ship and it would do them well to know and recognize that it will not be the same from here on out. I like to take a paws on approach.
