At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

When Kalgalath had appeared at the border, Sera had been rather pleased. She’d thought he’d come for a simple visit and that now would be a good time for he and Vladimir to reconcile and begin to heal the wounds that had settled upon her mate’s heart. Perhaps they could even invite him to the wedding and bring him to meet his grandchildren. The pair were young, but she didn’t think that Kal was the sort to judge them with as much harshness as others might. It was not the happy meeting the princess had been envisioning, however. No, a dark cloud hung over Kal and as he told them of the situation it spread over them as well. Just the thought of what he, and more importantly Sebring, were going through brought a bitter taste to Sera’s mouth.

She’d curled a little tighter around Vladimir and her children that night, her heart and mind still far from ease. In fitful sleep, Sera had lost track of time gazing at her family. Vlad had mentioned war, but she had not thought it would be upon them so soon. It worried her to no end; the thought of losing her soulmate was unbearable to her. And what of the little ones? What would they do without their father? Even if they weren’t full blooded, each pup had some Tempest in them and there were things that she could never explain to them. They need Vladimir as much as she did and Sera wished she could banish the niggling dread the wormed its way to the forefront of her thoughts. Unfortunately, that was not the world they lived in.

They transported the pups to a den that Vlad thought would be safer not long after. Here they would meet new pups and make new friends; perhaps they could pretend that all was well even if their parents could not. Sera hated that this was the world their children were living in. One that they would grow up in and continue the cycle of. Would one of them be lost to a vampire one day? She was loathe to leave the seven, but knew that they were far safer than Vladimir was. After insistences and promises from the older litter to watch their littlest siblings, Sera finally tore herself away and followed Vladimir.

The princess didn’t know how much help she would be to her mate and the others. She wasn’t much by way of a fighter - naturally of a slimer, weaker build and currently in no condition to fight anyway - nor was she much of a healer. Was there much she really could do? Sera would put herself in harm’s way before she’d let Vladimir, but he had magic and as strong as he was, that made him even more so. She stepped closer to him until their sides were touching, unease radiating off her. She didn’t like this whole situation one bit. Not even once they reached Laod Mor and saw the others who would be fighting on their side did she feel any better. Sera dipped her head in greeting to the femmes - Khaleesi, who she knew of in name, though not personally and another Tempest Sera had never seen - and her eyes lingered on Kalgalath, a reminder for why they were all there in the first place. They had to bring Sebring back. So whatever help Sera could provide, she would. Sebring deserved that from her.

“We will get her back, Kalgalath.”

We must.
