“if you’re gonna tell them everything
don’t leave out the good part”
Sabran gave a squeal as the cold water hit her skin and stumbled backwards in surprise. Eadaz only laughed as she basked in her sister’s irritated glare, and paused to take a drink from the water while Sabran shook herself dry with a huff.
Just then, however, a voice interrupted them. Both girls’ eyes shot towards the voice’s owner just across the water. Sabran gave her sister a nervous glance, more cautious of strangers than her sibling, but Eadaz barely noticed as she raised her head, her lips already splitting into a smile.
The stranger was older than her, but not by much – he looked about the same age as Sabran, if she were to guess – and the colours and patterns of his pelt were striking. Eadaz had never seen anything quite like it, and she was fascinated. Besides, he had only said hello – he seemed friendly enough.
“Ead,” Sabran began, quietly, but Eadaz ignored her and tossed her head in greeting.
“Hi!” she called out across the water between them, offering a smile in greeting. “I’m Eadaz, and this is my sister, Sabran.”
She gestured over her shoulder with her nose to her sister.
“Do you wanna come hang out?”
Sabran took a step closer to her sister, wanting to chastise her but not wanting to say anything in front of the stranger. Awkwardly, she forced a small, stiff smile to her lips to be polite.
