we're the trash in your bed

Psychedelic blinked as Aurora spoke about her disability. “I hadn’t even known that was a thing,” he said thoughtfully, thinking about how much life would suck having such a debilitating handicap. Glancing at her though he shook his head and made for the best attempt at a shrug he could offer. “We’ve got all day, take your time.” They didn’t actually. The selfish, hard piece of him who was the cruel thing he could be was irritated by the thought of being delayed by someone he’d just met the night before.

But Bob wouldn’t mind. Bob was just a kindly stallion who was raising his daughter without her mother. Now that Aurora had met Bob, she would be a character witness to speak to his attitude with whoever they came across. He was quickly realizing inviting her along made her far more important than he’d initially intended. Well, no use worrying about it now.

Talya nodded firmly. “I’ll be your eyes, Aurora! I can see and it doesn’t hurt me! Well, it does if I look right into the sun for a long time when it’s really bright, but that’s not the same.”

The trio traveled to Luthien, Psychedelic stretching his legs and churning the ocean as they went, his neck stretched to keep his head above the rolling saltwater. It would have been a good suggestion to rest on a close island before continuing to Luthien and his heart was immediately pulled toward Atlantis, but Psychedelic kept on swimming. He could not afford the chance someone would recognize him from his many trips. It was just too risky. So he swam and swam, hoping both Talya and Aurora were with him and sometimes hearing the sound of their heavy breaths and the splash of their bodies in-between the waves.

They climbed ashore and Psychedelic glanced toward Aurora at her suggestion. The Forest. Psychedelic shook his multi-colored coat and flicked his wet tail, considering their options. For him, The Forest was a much smarter choice. Even if someone visited who recognized him, he had a chance to get away and hide before they saw him. If they lived in the Prairie, there’d be nowhere to hide. He bobbed his head. “A Forest sounds nice.” He nearly turned as if intending to lead that way, but then recalled he wasn’t supposed to know any of the islands. He stopped and glanced around them, playing dumb before looking at Aurora (Talya had pranced to find a nice sandy area and was busy rolling around, getting her cream coat all dirty and scratching the saltwater from her skin). “Uh, which way? You point me in the direction and we’ll go.” He smiled a lopsided smile.

Nice save, dumbass.

His ear flicked and when Aurora pointed the way they’d go, he glanced toward Talya. “Talya! Come on!” Talya rolled and snorted, pulling quickly to her feet and moving toward them with her happiest of smiles.

“I think I like Luthien!” She proclaimed, even though all they’d seen thus far was the beach.

The trio made their way across the island, entering the shaded overhang of trees as they neared the Forest. Psychedelic had once been used to barging into territories without care, but now he knew he couldn’t do such a thing, so when a strong feminine scent soaked into his nose thick and fresh enough to tell him they were at someone’s home, he stopped short. “I think we’re there.” And he lifted his muzzle and called a loud, beckoning call.

Hopefully whoever was here didn’t recognize a prior Lagoon menace.
