Meadow

Spring is all around her, and the fresh green blooming around her, the wet, earthen smell to the air has Esther giddy. She’d holed up for the Winter, tucking away where she could hide out the season, warm and well rested. Now that she’s emerged from her self-imposed exile, Esther has every intention of finding something to do, someone to travel with. There’s so much she still hasn’t seen, and lately she’s grown lonely. Her long days and longer nights spent only in silence have lost their appeal, quickly moving from refreshing to nearly unbearable. Esther misses having friends, misses having someone next to her she can immediately turn to, to share a whispered joke at the expense of whoever is around, to or breathless awe at the next sight she’s found.

So, in order to make that happen she’s ventured to the Meadow as soon as the weather began to warm. Emerging from the ocean, Esther shakes the cool seawater from her coat off vigorously. Water droplets fly, glinting in the sun and spattering the ground below her as she glances around. It doesn’t seem like there’s many others here, the Meadow overwhelmingly empty. There’s a few figures in the distance, though, pairs of equine and lone visitors like herself and so Esther starts that way. She’s undirected, a slow meandering pace further towards the center of the island.

As she crests a dune from the beach, she comes along a creek and decides she might as well follow where it leads, hooves sinking deep into the soft, muddy ground along the edge of the water. Patience is key, now, and Esther has it within her.
