GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
they paint the world full of shadows

in the dark, there is discovery, there is possibility.
there is freedom in the dark once someone has illuminated it.

ooc: quick note for myself, this thread takes place before his current thread in the ruins, in the winter; I just failed to reply back in time sksks hope it’s okay we keep it backdated to winter like we originally planned!!

His visits to the Prairie grew few and far inbetween as winter settled across the isles. Chati’s sides grew wider and wider yet with not one, but two children she carried, and whether or not they were his or Castillon’s, they were theirs. This meant Nephilim wanted to keep informing Castillon of the updates to Chati’s condition even when the Prairie secondary could no longer come to visit like he did throughout autumn. Soon, Nephilim knew it would be too hard to even do these trips himself; soon he wouldn’t want to leave Chati’s side for even a second.

As he pulled himself onto the familiar shore he felt the soft chilly bite of Luthien’s winter inspire a slight shiver across his skin. Nephilim embraced it rather than shy from it, taking in a deep breath of the cool air and sighing it out in a semi-translucent huff before he started forward. His silvery tail was heavy, and took effort to flick out a few times here and there as he walked, breaking up the wet clumps and letting it air-dry more quickly.

His hooves crunched across the frosted ground as he pulled his body up one of the dunes and glanced across the rolling hills, marveling briefly at the sight of so much vegetation laid out before him. Even yellowed by its time beneath the summer sun, the Prairie hadn’t been buried underneath snowfall yet and was still filled with grasses. Nephilim had grown up in the Arch, where food became scarce through late autumn and practically all winter. One look at the Prairie and he understood entirely why it was a precious place for a horse to claim as their home.

Nephilim’s ears flicked as he pointed his boxy head forward, then caught sight of a young, slender black creature in the distance. As he came to a slow halt to lift his head and study her, he recognized the soft, unique stripes of white down her back and knew immediately who it was he had come across. Though his initial motive - find Castillon and inform him of Chati’s condition - was not forgotten, his happiness at seeing Vervain overcame his current train of thought. A happy smile burst across his mouth and Nephilim whinnied out to her, pleasantly surprised that she was the first one he’d come across.

The silver-haired paint changed the direction he’d been walking to instead approach her, offering his dark muzzle for a friendly exchange of breaths, grunting with excitement under his breath as he took her sweet, familiar smell. Nephilim always enjoyed the few times he was able to catch Vervain; her excitement for the world beyond and the questions she asked him always made him smile as he did. Nephilim often walked away from their encounters with his chest warmed and a grin stuck on his lips that only deepened every time he thought of her again.

It hadn’t exactly struck him what the depth of that meant entirely. He was still a young man after all, and prone to idiocy when it came to mares and romance.

“I’m so happy I came across you first,” he said earnestly once he’d tucked his chin back, eyes bright as they appraised her, “How have you been, Vervain?” There was only the briefest of pauses before he added the question, "What are you doing out here alone?"

Not that she couldn't be, of course, but still... as always, a thread of concern for her safety softened his words.
