DISCUSSION (CLOSED) Posted on July 1, 2024 at 01:12:46 AM by loveinspired
Hello everyone!
We've got another couple of discussion topics for you today! This time we would like to take a look at two topics that have come up rather frequently. This discussion will stay open for two weeks, ending on July 14th, 2024.
TOPIC ONE - Twins Dibs Surprise twins are a fairly rare and wonderful occurrence on TLI and are highly sought after and enjoyed by many. In horses, twins are extremely dangerous, and rarely if ever survive if delivered in the wild. For TLI, we want to keep that element of rarity, while still allowing members to enjoy twins.
Over the past breeding seasons, it has become the norm that both twin rolls are often claimed by perks immediately, preventing players who may not be interested or able to win contests from looking forward to a surprise twin roll. In a perfect world, 1-2 chances for a twin dibs perk should be available per in-game year. They are often the number one claimed perk by contest and vote winners. (Mod Note: I know the past few seasons have been rough, but I do intend to get back to regular contests and votes)
What I am interested in hearing from you are your thoughts on the following:
What are your general thoughts on this topic? Do you feel as though the current system is fair and balanced?
Do you feel as though it would be fair to limit the number of twins dibs to one per season? This would leave the second pair of twins to be rolled naturally.
Do you feel that it would be beneficial to raise the maximum number of twins per season to three? If we did so, the third twin would not be given out until the season mid-point and would be naturally rolled only. If so, how would you balance the rarity?
Include the possibility of death for the mare and/or foals? This would require players to intentionally opt-in when requesting foal stats.
We considered basing the third as being dependent on the total number of breedings per season. However, the fear is that this would inadvertently encourage players to breed foals they don't intend to keep or play.
Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions not covered by the above points?
TOPIC TWO - Away Protection Many players have expressed frustration about the way our current away protection works in regard to territory ownership. Currently, players may go on away for up to one month and have their land and herd members protected from challengers or new claimants. As long as the players return and post before the month is up, they are not at risk of their territory being considered inactive and eligible for another character to claim it.
We in no way want to punish players for needing time away from the site. Real life always comes first. However, it is possible for this system to be abused and for a player to essentially hold on to a territory by repeatedly going on away. This can feel especially frustrating for players who want a territory and see territories that are not being used, but cannot attempt to claim or challenge for them. Additionally, with the consistent site activity, we want to make sure territories are being used.
Some of the changes we have been considering are:
If a player has been on away for a certain amount of time in the span of 1 rolling in-game year, their territories become eligible for reclamation.
Requiring that for every week of being on away, a player must have that many weeks active before they can go on away again.
Requiring a minimum number of posts before being able to go on away again.
What I am interested in hearing from you are your thoughts on the following:
Do you think the way away protection currently works is fair? Are there any changes you would like to see?
Which (if any) of the above solutions seem the most fair to you? Or do you have your own idea?
