If I could hide forever...

It was easier to stay hidden in the darker times of night. It was easier to not get noticed and stay out of trouble...well, usually. There were the times when the darkness caused clumsy moments...moments that could cause Deku his life. The paranoid lupine was constantly reminded of death and pain by the simple fact that he had to kill to survive, and he found the best way to avoid this death and pain was to stay away from everyone else.

The dark brown mottled male hugged closely to the foliage of Traydon river. He didn't head out close to the river, where the brush became more sparse. Deku made certain to avoid moonlight when possible, his hunched frame comfortable in the darkest of places. This night, Deku was on the move to a better place to hunt. A place not as open as the hunting lands, but not too crunched together. He didn't quite know where he was going, but he knew night time was the best time to travel, and dawn was the best time to hunt.

Each step held a constant tension that Deku could never seem to get rid of. The slightest noise of a bird or even a bug would make his lighter brown ears twitch. This happened often, as it did tonight, the source of the noise unknown, but enough to make Deku panic and dash forward until he felt safe. As the male slowed and his body calmed, just a tiny bit, his nose told him something...odd. As he paid more attention to it, and the realization hit, he froze stiff, golden eyes opening wide as they looked left to right. It was his mother. This scent was so foreign, but yet so familiar. Deku gulped as his mind raced. He hadn't seen his mother in years. Heck, he hadn't talked to another in a year or so. He mind told him to walk the other way...paranoia was strong. But...it was his mother, and his heart made him go forward and follow the scent.

It wasn't long before Deku came closer to where his mother lay. He was so nervous, excited, and scared. His head dashed back and forth, and he was barely paying attention to what was in front of him. But before the brown male stumbled upon his mother, he looked forward, stopping to a halt only a few feet away. His head was raised as he stared at her, dumbfounded and frozen. His whole body was stiff as his eyes took in her form. Was this really her? This was indeed a black fem, winged...and around her neck, he caught the slight glimmer of a golden feather. Deku licked his nose uncontrollably as words seemed to escape him. After an awkward moment, he manged to stutter out, "M..m-m-mother?"
