aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The first scent is that of my good friend Kalgalath. Even with all the time we've spent apart, I still know that I trust him completely. He'd been wandering the pack lands, looking for friendship and all he found was emptiness and desolation. The pack has been in ruins since Sin's death and Cody is not around to bring order or hope back to the wolves. What else do we have? I don't want the title of alpha and I told Cody I would hold the pack lands for him but how long must I watch my friends and pack mates suffer without the proper leadership? A good alpha does not run, a good alpha does not hide. A good alpha stays and till Cody returns, we must have a good alpha. He can fight for the title when he gets back but I won't let another pack go to ruins like Munashii did.

Kalgalath dips his head and smiles, a smile I'm more than happy to return. My eyes light up when I see the hope reflecting back at me. It's time to get life back into this place, agreed? The next scent is familiar and I sigh in contentment, glad to know that others I at least know the names of still reside here. I remember seeing Zig at more than one pack meeting, her and her brother Zag. I remember the way her eyes lit up like diamonds when she saw Cody. There's no denying there's a spark there and I hope he returns to see it goes. I'd like to see her happy as I hope to be some day, when Akina returns.

I'm sure she's feeling a little lost without Cody. He meant a lot to her. I don't have to know her well to know that much. When she arrives, she dips her head and smiles. I return the gesture, my tail swaying in greeting. You as well, Zig. I'm glad you came. My eyes search hers, looking for the sadness I know still lingers. She came even though it wasn't Cody calling and I want her to know that means a lot to me.

The next scent is that of a stranger, though he seems to be a pack member here. Distant perhaps? One who likes to wander? My ears flicker back and forth in uncertainty as I feel a rising tension in the air. Perhaps he's not happy that a wolf he doesn't know is calling for the pack? I guess he'll have to get over it since he hasn't been around. He may know that Sin is dead but where has he been the past few months? Where was he when she called meetings that I always attended? Where was he when she called hunts? Where was he when she died? I was there and I will not feel like an outsider, not here. This is my home and I've made it so.

He walks up to me, his eyes never lingering long on Kalgalath or Zig. I could understand him not knowing Kalgalath since I accepted him and he hasn't found anyone else around to get to know. But Zig? She's been here for a while and that's just since I came to Aurora. How could he not know her and be a pack member? I find my brow furrowing as I study the male approaching. He bows but there is doubt written all over his face. He introduces himself as Chiron and says that he's a recent member. Ah, that explains it. My brow relaxes as I offer him a smile of truce. He asks for my title and I nod, letting his gaze linger on mine. I notice his submissive posture and My ears flick forward. There's no call for submission, Chiron. I am not your alpha. My name is King Kong and Sin appointed Cody and I both Betas at the last pack meeting. I know Cody is supposed to be taking over in the shadow of her death but he's not present and he hasn't been since her death so I think it's time to get a plan B.

I look up, knowing that more are arriving but hoping that they'll be here to listen so I don't have to repeat myself too much. My eyes sweep over the others, wanting all of their opinions. When my gaze lingers on Zig, I pause, eyes asking for understanding. I know that she is falling for Cody. I know that she wants him to return and believe me, so do I. But something has got to give. Cody is welcome to the title when he gets back from wherever he's at but I think Aurora needs a new leader now, a strong leader who can get our numbers back up and bring back the hope. Sin's death is a tragedy and one that's going to be hard to come back from. We can't just lie low and wait for someone to prey on our vulnerability. We need to make a change now. I'm calling the pack to vote for a new alpha. I'm hoping we'll have some strong members step forward. My gaze moves over the others as I speak but they always come back to Zig, knowing how she feels about the absent heir to the throne. I have to know that she doesn't think I'm betraying Cody. She has to know that I'm thinking of the good of the pack.
