Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The stars were high above my small, delicate frame. I moved silently through the trees, my bright white body, splashed with red, stood out like a sore thumb. I knew in my heart that I needed to find myself and inessa a new home. While at the same time, Inessa was almost two, which meant she was almost old enough to go off on her own, leaving me all alone, again. It was on the verge of breaking my heart, knowing she was ready to leave. But it wouldn’t break my heart as bad as it did when Laerah left. I missed her, my little girl, not knowing where she had gone. She had been with me one moment, gone then next and then after that, I never saw her again. I don’t know what I did in a past life to deserve all of this, but to be honest, it was getting to be way, way too much for me to be able to handle. I had thought I had someone to trust in Rupture, but he too, was gone without word. It only meant that I had to suck it up and be everything myself. No more trusting.

Then there had been that large gathering in the fields with the dead elk, after the girls were born, where somehow, I had felt a strange pull, like I had when Daemon had imprinted on me, but then it was gone, as if the male the feeling belonged to had too, left. Oh well, it was seeming more and more that I was destined to be alone. Which, I guess, suited me just fine. The riverside was close, and so I pulled myself through the long grasses, heading towards the soft, thick grass on the edge of the river. The snow was no more, and the first days of spring would be any day now, leaving the grass thick and lush, vibrating with life.

The river rushed faster than usual, due to the snowcaps melting and flowing into the river, it was also higher than usual. I wasn’t about to go into the water, no, but I laid along the shore, my paws on the edge of the bank, my head draped over them as I laid watching the river rush past my face. There was a slight breeze tonight, along with Luna high up in the sky, it was a peaceful, serene night, one that would be easy to enjoy, silently.
