Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

are the dead really silent?

I have not strayed too far from the sheltering trees of the forest. There are many shadows and wisps here that keep me company, there has been no need for me to travel elsewhere. Leaves around me continue to change color in the chilling air around them. The seasons are changing, the earth around me is slowly dying, retreating away from the cold as the night and the moon begin to rule the skies more than its brother sun. Living becomes dead, but only just; while the dead start to linger just out of sight, trying to reclaim their right to live.

Around me the world is alight with color. The autumn colors danced in the colder winds that had begun to blow. Burnt orange eyes watch the realms collide, the earth trying to balance itself with the understanding that wars will be raged and a winner declared. Understanding that a season comes, a season goes, and death will always befall the victor only to have another of the same rise again in time. None may rule the earth longer than their time declares. Gods fall at the hands of mortals only to feel the wrath of the fallen. Demons and angels battle for their souls. Murderers find their deaths in the jaws of their judges, only to find that it is their brethren who passed the order. There is but one ruler of the world. One thing that will forever have its command over the workings of the universe. I watch it play out before my eyes as an amber leave releases its hold on its mother tree and falls to my paws.

It is a beautiful thing, the death of something so small. The slow trickle of life leaving it, its subtle consciousness unknowing of the fate it has fallen to. A smile slowly draws on my face, I can feel it tug at my lips. The death of the leaf, of the trees around me fuel the energy of the world to bring life to it again in the spring. There is no sadness here in the loss. The world the tree has seen, the seasons the leaf had seen and experienced were powerful in their own way. A life had been lived. To continue life it needed to let go.

The wind blew again. Its chilly touch pulling more of the blazing foliage off the branches they had clung to. The leaves fell and swirled around my pale cream and silver body. A haunting howl from my throat harmonizes with the laughter of the wind. Jumping lightly around, rolling at times, twisting and turning, I dance in the life, death, and wonder of the world around me.
