living through a memory

He didn't expect to find her on his first try. Maybe the fates were in his favor, after all. When her scent hit his nostrils, he closed his eyes for a minute, reveling in its sweet texture. It hadn't changed much since that last time and yet he caught the hint of a herd scent to it now. So she had a home. He got so lost in the beauty of it that he forgot it actuall meant she was here. He blamed his own body, thinking it was just throwing him a bone, something to hold onto until he could find her again and really see her. But as he opened his eyes, he thought he heard something. Like a whisper on the wind, was that his name he heard ushed on feminine lips? His ears pricked and his whole body tensed, a single ripple of pleasure finding its way down his spine as he looked around, eager to hear it again.

And then he did. This time his name was yelled and he spun around to find the source, a nicker of his own leaving his lips as he drank in her angelic form. Talien. It really was her. "Talien!" He called back and launched forward, his hooves eating up the ground separating them. As she got closer, he heard his name again, this time much softer and his own expression melted with pleasure. He could already see the glistening in her eyes and he ached to wipe those away, a more gentle nicker falling from his lips as he reached out his muzzle. "I'm here, princess." He murmured the words, using the nickname he always called her as foals. As their noses touched, his skin tingled with excitement, his nostrils breathing in her scent like fresh air. It really was her.

She spoke again, saying she thought she'd never see him again and he shook his head before moving forward to wrap his neck around her in an embrace. He didn't care if she went back to her herd smelling like him. Dammit, in his mind, she would always be his anyway. "I'd never let that happen. I'll always find you." He whispered into her mane as he let out a sigh of contentment. It just felt so right to be here with her, but he knew they couldn't just wrap themselves up in their own little world. Reality had to set in eventually. With a deeper sigh, he finally stepped away to get a better look at her. "So, what's changed? You found a new home?" He enquired softly, tilting his head.
