Alone
Yes, that's the key word, the most awful word in the English tongue. Murder doesn't hold a candle to it and hell is only a poor synonym.
It did not take long for another to join me; it is both the curse and the blessing of these caves to draw wolves so easily here. There is a feel of mystery that calls to all souls, both lost and found, to come and explore its secrets. Yet they must be careful not to fall into a daze at its beauty, for the farther you slip back and the more engulfed into the shadows you become, the more likely you are to loose your sanity to the shadows. The caves prey on the weak, stealing their senses and leaving traps for them to fall into so easily. It is why that many who come in, find they will not be coming back out.
Blue and green split eyes watched in curiosity as a female, clad all in white, slipped into the shadows. It took a second, but her nose twitched, and soon her sun filled eyes found me upon my ledge. There is silence as we both simply stare at each other for a moment, the earth and the sun locked upon each other. I blinked and broke the gaze before rising to all fours. She did not seem to be a wolf with malicious intent, so why not go down and investigate this strange vixen further.
I gave her a nod, as if telling her to stay put, before turning the melding into the darkness. I made the short trek back, careful as I hoped back down to the cave floor and traveled to the location of the female, wondering if she had stayed or wandered off. When I returned into the light that poured in from the opening, I found she had indeed stayed. My banner gave a friendly wave, to assure her my intentions of coming down were nothing but friendly.
I sat back onto my haunches, tilting my head curiously as I stared at her, wondering what drew her here. My head tilted slightly in my silent way of asking who she was. Would she accept my silence, or would she find offence to it like many I had met. I meant no disrespect, but many were too blinded by pride and thought I was ignoring them, leading them to lash out. It was one of the main reasons why I was pushed from society and into the safety of the shadows.
