She wakes the next morning feeling more refreshed and relaxed than she has in longer than she can remember – at least since she’d last been with her parents. She’s the first one up and decides that she’d better check to see how long they have until sunrise. She takes a deep breath and opens her eyes, hoping that it isn’t later than expected and that she isn’t about to get a face full of sunlight.
It isn’t and she doesn’t, and she breathes a sigh of relief as she arches her gold neck, needing to stretch after so long in the same position. She notices that Talya has taken up residence next to her and it fills her chest with a warmness that she’s never felt before. The filly’s pale body reminds Aurora even more of her mother than it had last night, although she can’t yet see it much better than she had then.
She moves carefully away from the slumbering girl, cloudy eyes moving to Bob, who’s not far away. She pokes her head out of the willow’s branches, looking toward the horizon. She can see just the faintest hint of light creeping up; she smiles as she realizes that her wish the night before will be granted…the sun will be behind them on their journey to Luthien. Still, she knows it will be painful for her once the sun comes up, so she figures the sooner they start, the better.
Having established that she can already see, there’s nothing to prevent them from getting underway. She needs to warn them first that she will likely slow them down at some point, so she wants to get all of the emotional stuff out of the way as quickly as possible.
Pulling her head back into the overhang, Aurora nickers gently to rouse the father and daughter, hoping not to startle them. She imagines that Talya will be just as energetic as last night, if not more so, so she braces herself for the little whirlwind that her new friend has already shown she can be.
