At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

The brute had seemed to freeze when she rubbed her pelt against him, but when she had growled gently he had nuzzled her back, and so Athene had backed away quickly, not wanting him to think that the gesture had meant more than it had been meant to. A gesture of thanks. And yet when she had touched him, she had felt something. A warmth growing within her that eased her pain and heated up her chilled bodice. And when he had returned the touch, she had felt safe, comfortable. But she moved away, dancing quickly away from the though. She felt safe because she was out of harm’s way, wasn’t that it? And she felt warm because she was no longer in the frigid waters. The pain eased because of the adrenaline rushing through her system. That was it, wasn’t it? Athene had always been the wolf who had been the savior, especially when it came to her sister. She had never needed help in the past, or needed to be saved herself, and honestly never had trusted that anyone would be there for her should the time ever occur when she would need help. But he had been there, and against all odds had saved her, more than once. Were the emotions stirring within her just due to the danger of the moment, the heat of the moment?

Athene didn’t know, but she wasn’t about to push the issue, nor worry about it. As she moved away, the leg that had been caught in the crevice gave way, agony running, screaming through her nerves. The injury was worse than she had originally thought. I need to see. Would you like to come to Staircase Falls with me? Our wounds need attending to. Athene nodded, and would have laughed to herself in that there was no way he could have seen the gesture. But she had exhausted all of her words as of late. She felt no need for immediate conversation, so instead she merely followed him out of the caverns, her injured leg being held up off of the ground protectively. Each stride jostled it, however, causing her pain, yet no whimpers escaped from her maw.

When they finally reached the sunshine, Athene had breathed deeply of the fresh air, which unfortunately caused the cut on her side to reopen a bit, new droplets of blood beginning to drop down her pelt, but it was well worth it. The deep inhale cleared the stagnant cavern air out of her lungs and relaxed her system. Though she knew the brute was awaiting her response to his question, she merely turned to look at him, her honey eyes locking onto his own injured leg, and smiled meekly. Her form had then turned around and began to head off toward the cascades, half of her form pelted down with blood due to her various injuries. The travel there had been slow, with her only making use of three of her legs, but it was a luxury to not to have to hustle out of a darkened tight space in fear of their lives.

The rocks leading up to the top of the cascades was slippery, so Athene unsheathed her daggers once more for the added traction, though she noticed that they were much shorter due to all of her scrambling on the cavern’s rock walls. Near the top was a quiet eddy, where the strong current held no power, and the femme slipped into the water, wincing when it lapped at her wounds. Though her pelt was usually mostly white, with only the occasional black and grey stripe, it was now as if she was a russet hued wolf, so heavily was she covered in blood. The water that she had been drenched in had spread it through her pelt, and as she basked in the soothing waters, the dye finally began to disperse. The fae wondered if there would be some common herbs around the top of the cascades to ease her and Zev’s pain, and for preventing infection to set into the wounds. Finally, her honeys slipped upward to glance toward to the brute, getting a good luck at his leg, but it was also covered from the cavern’s debris and so it was difficult to see it properly.
