He knew deep in his heart that he didn't do anything wrong. Inanna had left for her own personal reasons. It didn't mean she loved him or Triton any less. And yet he couldn't help feeling somehow like a failure to her, like he should have been more, done more. She was always an adventurer. He'd known that from the start. It was one of the many reasons he loved her, for her spirit. But they were a family now and his heart was thoroughly breaking, no matter how he tried to keep it together with brittle duck tape. He told himself he needed to be strong for Triton but it was getting so hard. He had no distractions to focus on. Eden had yet to call him for any task and he was restless. Before he'd put all his determination into his family, into providing for his mate and his growing son, but now Triton was growing and maturing. He could feed himself and provide for himself. Thor knew his son mostly hung around now just to keep an eye on him. It wasn't because he needed Thor. It was because Thor needed him, and he hated himself for that.
He didn't want his own son to think of him as an invalid, as someone who couldn't be alone. He was supposed to be the strong one, to be his mother and father's son. And here he was, still unranked and now his own mate had left him. He would always love Inanna. That would never turn off and his heart ached with every passing day that he didn't get to see her beautiful face. He hadn't given himself up to grieving completely because of Triton, but tonight his son was away so Thor headed out deep into Glorall, wanting to get out of earshot from his son or anyone who might know him. He almost thought about going into the free lands but stopped short. This was his home and he couldn't leave it, not yet. Without further ado, he threw his head up, letting out a gut wrenching whine that turned into a howl from the deepest depths of his heart. He drew out all his anger, all his pain, all his heart ache into the cry. It sounded pitiful, even to his own ears, but he kept going, knowing it wouldn't lessen the pain but maybe he could tire himself out and finally get some rest.
He couldn't sleep without her by his side. He pretended well enough with Triton beside him but it wasn't the same. He closed his eyes and went through the motions of deep breathing but it was all for show, all so Triton wouldn't know just how far his father had fallen. He only lived for his son now. His cries were just resounding into echoes throughout the beach pack when he heard a smaller voice that he instantly recognized. Talien. His imprint. Of course, she would know of his pain and come to check on him. His soul drew him onward toward the borders, whimpers still falling from his lips but he sucked it in and held firm to the path. Could he fall apart with her? His soul said yes but his mind said to be strong. When he saw her, his tail gave a half hearted wag but his ears remained drooped, his eyes still glassy and full of unshed tears. He couldn't hide his pain from her. He knew it was no use, even if he tried. He sniffled before shaking his head, as if he could brush off the heartbreak, letting out a ragged sigh as he stopped before her.
Slowly, he lifted his heavy head to look at her. "Talien..." He whispered in a cracked voice full of emotion. "She's gone."
