At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

Kalgalath sighed, rolling over until he laid upon his dorsum. He had had a long night, staying up until dawn was almost breaking, talking with Hocus the whole time. Only then had he said his goodbyes with sweet caresses and soft wines. His travel back to his territory has been a long one, for he had taken his time leaving the fae. His stride had not been hasty to get back to his den, it was rather slow and thoughtful, reflecting on how he felt about her. She took his mind away from the worries at hand, taking him to a happier, calmer place. Of course, they did have their fair share of excitement in the long, long night that they spent together but always he left her feeling relaxed. At ease. Comfortable.

So why, then, was he still not in love with her?

The brute thought of her as a friend with whom he had relations. In his mind there was nothing romantic about her, just a friend who attended to his needs the way most others would not or could not. Oddly, he did not feel guilty about this at all, for she seemed to be on the exact same page as he did. Still, Kalgalath, who has always been one for serious, monogamous relationships, felt strange about their relationship. None of his close friends knew about her, for there was no need to talk about her. More than that, he felt no need to introduce her to his daughter. Hocus' existence in his life was a temporary thing. He knew it, and she knew it. So why then did he feel guilt about his lack of emotion?

And then it hit him. His main priorities were to his pack and family. His own priority should come after that. He was Alpha, and with that came with a lot of power that had to be balanced with responsibility. He was spending time with the femme in order to make him so happy, but that happiness was at the price that the time spent with her could have been spent with his friends, or his offspring. It would have all been worth it if he saw her as potentially his new mate, and therefore new queen and ruler of Aurora Borealis. If there was even a sliver of chance that she could be the one to rule beside him, it would have been worth it. But that simply was not the case. And so he decided that though she gave him peace of mind, this temporary haven from his work would need to end, sooner rather than later.

By now, the large rolling ball fire in the sky was directly overhead, piercing through even the thick boughs of his groove den. Hours had passed since he had left her, and even some had left since he had arrived back at his den, but still he had not managed to sleep a wink. All he had managed to do was waste more time. Another sigh escaped from his muzzle , and he rolled back over onto his paws, standing up and stretching. Slowly, he pushed through the branches of the thick firs surrounding him. Their hard needles scratched at him, loosening his pelt, grooming him. As he stepped out into the bright sun, he squinted until his pupils adjusted, sluggishly constricting. He had much to do today, but he could barely keep his eyes open. Then again, he could not make himself sleep. And so, he turned his nose toward the far edge of his territory, where it was edged by the large lake that lay there. A swim in it's cooling waters would surely awaken him.

A slow trot led him there, his limbs bringing him forward in graceful, smooth motion. Yet when finally he arrived, he saw that he was not the only one with the idea to visit the lake. And ashen fae existed on the far end of the beach, and at first he thought she was sleeping, bathing in the shallow waters of the lake. But then he saw her form getting pulled out farther into the depths of the liquid, and barely any movement proving that she was fighting to survive. His gentle trot evolved to a hasty and his mottled pelt plastered itself to his skin as he charged into the lake himself. He did not know if she wanted to survive, but his teeth grabbed a hold of her scruff nonetheless, and he started dragging her inland toward the shore. There would be no death during his watch.
